Body Contouring is a system utilised to reduce subcutaneous fat, visceral fat and cellulite through diathermy (electrically induced heat) or CLATUU (controlled-cooling for fat reduction). Body Contouring also involves obesity management, skin care, skin lifting and acne treatment among its adjunct benefits.

Cellulite, or the so-called “orange peel syndrome”, is the cause of that uneven appearance of the skin’s contour at different parts of our body. This appearance is brought about by the herniation of subcutaneous fat within fibrous connective tissue. It is not a skin disease but a condition that affects one’s well being and aesthetic self-image nonetheless. Among its many benefits, Body Contouring is an effective way to correct cellulite.

How does Body Contouring work?
After heat or cold is delivered to the skin’s deeper layers, it is converted into thermal or cryogenic energy that either generates heat or causes a drop in temperature within the target tissue. The rise in tissue temperature improves the overall function of the body’s cells, promoting improved blood circulation, improved lymphatic circulation, reduced cellulite and enhanced skin regeneration. The drop in temperature causes localized cell death followed by a local inflammatory response, otherwise known as panniculitis, which gradually results in a reduction of the fatty tissue layer.

A heat-induced Body Contouring system loosens securely connected combinations of adipose tissue by generating heat in a specific area, in turn accelerating the burning of fat by dissolving the fat molecule’s water content. The remaining material is then excreted through our sweat glands or through our urine. Examples of this modality are Radiofrequency (RF) and CLATUU Body Contouring. These methods reduce subcutaneous fat and visceral fat by thermally damaging adipose tissue, so the body’s shape and contour evens out, resulting in a sleek and slim look.

CLATUU, on the other hand, operates on the opposite end of the thermal spectrum. Its principle relies on controlled cooling and LED light for non-invasive local reduction of fat deposits to reshape body contours. The exposure to cooling is set so that it causes cell death of subcutaneous fat tissue without apparent damage to the overlying skin. The procedure is billed as a nonsurgical alternative to small targeted area liposuction. Subjects can have a 20% – 30% reduction after only a few treatments, and 25% reduction at six months in the fat layer as assessed by ultrasound. This lipolytic effect of treatment takes place within about two to four months.
