Overview

Psoriasis is the localized thickened skin patches. This is a chronic condition though it is non-contagious in nature. The condition arises due to excessive production of cells. It may have a mild to severe effect on any part of the body.

People with psoriasis often suffer from obesity, congestive heart failure, and diabetes.

Treatment & Procedure

Body joints are affected in about one-third of psoriasis-affected patients. The condition is known as psoriatic arthritis which appears between 30 and 40. It is not curable, only the medications help in controlling the situation.

Topical treatment: Steroid-based ointments, injection, or oral medicines may be suggested as
Ultraviolet light treatment: When the disease spread to a larger area of ultraviolet light treatments are applied.
Light therapy includes PUVA and Narrow-band UVB phototherapy. Excimer laser XTRAC is a recent discovery that generates narrow-band ultraviolet light which is used to treat smaller areas.
Goeckerman therapy: It uses a combination of UVB and tar application.

Erythrodermic psoriasis is the advancement of any type of psoriasis. This type of disease involves entire skin surface.

Inverse psoriasis occurs in joints like armpit, navel, hips, and groin.
Palmoplantar psoriasis involves palms and soles

Psoriasis of nail results in nail fungus and yellowish deformed nails.

Psoriasis symptoms

Diverse types of psoriasis show miscellaneous symptoms. Yet, some of the common signs are-

Red or pink scaly bumps
Itching
Genital lesions
Dry white flaky patches on the skin often ooze out a drop of blood
Yellowish-brown separation from the nail bed
Small pits on fingernails of hands and feet

Scalp psoriasis results in hair loss, dandruff, and itching on scalp
